Dear Paul,
I am new to EFT, but I see such amazing potential in it. It is truly one of the greatest self help tools that I have ever come across. As I think of the vast possibilities of this tool, I have to ask why one would need the help of an EFT therapist. Couldn’t a person simply just do it all himself/herself? If this question makes it to your site, would you please just refer to me as “Sceptical of Therapists”.
Regards,
Sceptical of Therapists
Dear Sceptical of Therapists,
I couldn’t agree with you more on the vast potential of EFT. The more I use it the more amazed I am of what it can help the mind and body accomplish. Though I do not feel that an EFT therapist is needed all of the time, I personally believe that they have an important role. Here are some of the reasons why I feel that an EFT therapist is needed at times:
You need the support of another person to reach the conclusion of your challenge because it is overwhelmingly big and you cannot handle it all on your own.
You have been working on a problem for a long time and have tapped on absolutely everything that you can think of but you are not seeing any results.
You are new to EFT and are not confident enough yet to trust your intuition all of the way.
You want to learn extra tricks in order to get even faster results.
You are so drawn into your problem that you need someone to help you look at it from the outside.
In the world we live in with all of the scam artists out there it is easy to take a dim view on anyone claiming to be a therapist, doubly so when that same therapist is offering to help you with a technique that appears so astonishingly easy to use. Though I definitely believe that you should check out any prospective therapists well, I would beg you not to lose a good ally in needy times by considering all EFT therapists to be useless.
Thank you again for sending me this question. I hope that I have answered it to your satisfaction. Should you have any further questions or responses please email me again.
Kindest of Regards,
Paul Thurman

Email Anxiety with EFT [2:19m]:

I recently received an email from a lady called Jo about email anxiety and whether that can be helped with EFT. Here’s the letter…..
I’m beginning to dread logging on to my computer to see my emails. I put off checking them at work because it always seems to be full with people wanting me to do things. I already have a full in-tray and yet there’s more things stressing me in my in-box. Can you help?
Jo
EFT is great for dealing with all sorts of anxieties and phobias and email anxiety is not an exception.
With everyone using email instead of the regular post system, it’s not uncommon to have anxiety about opening up your mail box. Whether that’s your own personal box or your work system sometimes it can just seem too much sometimes – there’s spam to go through and people always wanting something from you (and they want it now!!).
We’re going to work through an EFT sequence that will take the emotion out of opening your mail box. First of all you need to acquaint yourself with EFT Tapping points and for this exercise we’re only going to be using the body points (not the hand ones).
Start by tapping on the Karate Chop point and say the following:
“Even though I really, really don’t want to see what’s in my mail box, I completely and deeply love and accept myself”
Continue tapping the Karate Chop and say:
“Even though opening my mail box fills me with dread and I hate this feeling, I completely and deeply love and accept myself”
Still tapping on the Karate Chop, now say:
“Even though I’m very anxious about my emails I love and accept myself anyway”
Now starting at the Eyebrow point tap and say “this email anxiety”. Tap this short saying on all of the body points ending at under arm then repeat again from the eyebrow point.
Do you feel happier about those emails waiting for you? Repeat the whole sequence again from tapping the Karate Chop point and feel your anxiety drop.
You can repeat this short session as often as you need. If you find your anxiety hasn’t dropped at all, don’t worry. Just email me and we can investigate some other phrases to get you mailbox happy!
Kind regards

I can't Face the Unknown [3:32m]:

Dear Paul,
I am having a great difficulty with EFT of late. Problems come up and my first thought is to tap them away, but when I start I find myself thinking “Things are not all that bad” and I stop. It seems that my stress is building by the minute and yet I fall into this pattern over and over. I have not tapped for nearly three months now. Can you tell me what is happening and how I can get back on track?
Frustrated and Fickle
Dear Frustrated and Fickle, let me first assure you that want you’re currently experiencing is quite common. Everybody practising EFT has or will eventually come to this point. When a person first starts EFT they rightfully go after the most glaring problem that they have. Usually, the problem is improved or corrected fairly quick. This victory excites the newbie and they go on to experience more victories. Then one day they find themselves unable to tap with any conviction if at all.
What has happened? This is where the adaptive nature of humanity comes in. As humans we fight with all that is within us to change the things that we fear will completely destroy us. Then after we conquer these things we adapt to everything else. This is why your first thought before you stop tapping is, “Things are not all that bad?” At this point it is better the ills that you know than having to adjust to still yet another change (even though you are pretty sure that the change would be better).
So how do we get out of this position and back onto the road change. Here are my suggestions from both my personal experience and those of my clients:
Be gentle with yourself. Understand that this wall is inevitable. You are not alone in your frustration and you can get over it.
Tap on your frustration of reaching this point, your fear that you may not get past it, and your feelings of being alone.
When you have tapped the above down to the minimum of a 2, tap in the following phrases:
“Even though I have not tapped in three months, I choose to no longer settle for acceptable”
“Even though there will be changes, I am willing to accept that they might be for the better”
“Even though I have stored enough stress inside to blow up an entire country, I am ready to release it and become all that I can be”
My sincere hope is that this assurance and set of phrases will get you past your current obstacle. If for some reason they do not, please consider taking advantage of my email sessions and we will finish the work that they have begun.

When can I Stop Taping [2:38m]:

Dear Paul,
Once I feel better about my situation should I continue tapping on it. If so, for how long?
Look forward to your reply,
David
Hello David,
Thanks for asking this question. There is no general answer to this question. It all really depends on exactly what the issue is that you tapped for. I would take the following things into consideration:
Did you tap on something that is out of your control that happens on a regular basis? Let’s say for example that you live with a family member that constantly puts you down. Each time they say something cruel it hurts. In a situation such as this it is important to tap each time you feel that their words have negatively affected you in any manner. This can help you keep a positive outlook during and after the barrage.
Did you remember to tap in a good concluding statement when you felt that the problem was gone? In my experience the best way to do this is to tap in a thankfulness statement. Let’s say that you tapped away an anger issue that you have had for a long time. Your thankfulness statement could be something like this:
I am so thankful that this anger that has plagued me for so long is now forever gone.
If this statement should cause any doubts to come up. Tap all the doubts down to zero. You may be able to do this in one sitting or it might take a few times. You will know when to stop when you are comfortable with the thankfulness statement.
Have you tried not tapping on it for a day? The only way to be 100% sure that you are done with tapping on a situation is trial. If you can go through an experience or emotion that used to really affect you feeling anywhere from neutral to good, it is time to stop tapping. On the other hand. if you note even a small symptom that warns you that you might be negatively affected, continue to tap on the issue as well as the symptom. Do this pattern three times and if you start to feel that the progress has stopped consider getting the assistance of an EFT practitioner.

Tapping Without Being Noticed [2:04m]:

Dear Paul,
I like the effects of EFT, but am more frequently with people than alone. Because I am really disliking of calling attention to myself I wondered if there was a way that I could tap without making a spectacle of myself?
Jane
Hello Jane,
Thank you so much for the question. I can actually suggest three different ways to get the effects without making a scene.
The first is to tap only on the hand positions that are in the EFT manual. You would start out by thinking your set up phrases in your head as you tap on the KC point so that you are in no danger of having someone thinking that you are talking to yourself. Once you have done this tap your focus word or phrase on the thumb and finger points. Because there are only four points (since you are leaving out the Gamut Point as well) I would suggest that you go over the points twice for each round.
Another interesting technique that I stumbled across is to start by thinking your set up phrases in your head while tapping the KC point. Then you would make claws out of both of your hands and then tap them together so that the tips of the fingers are meeting on each tap. This allows you to tap on ten out of the twelve meridians simultaneously. When you do this repeat your focus word or sentence seven times.
The final way is to do it all in your head. Some people find this technique a bit overwhelming. But if you can get it to work for you it is an excellent way. You simply say your set phrases in your head and then imagine that you are tapping the acupuncture points that you normally would.
I hope these techniques will be of value to you.

Paul Thurman

3 Reasons that can make EFT appear not to work [5:07m]:

Frequently people assume that EFT doesn’t work when they fail to achieve results after a couple of rounds. This is largely because they’ve heard so much about what we call “The two minute miracle”. Though these fabulous results are frequently obtained in EFT, they’re not guaranteed.
Here are a 3 things to consider when you seem to not be having any progress and are tempted to believe that EFT will not work for your problem:
1. Have you had enough water?
In order to restore the body to balance there must be a sufficient amount of water in it. Dehydration stops the electricity generated by the tapping of the Acupuncture points from flowing properly. Before I start a session with a client I suggest that they have a glass of water prior tapping. A large glass is not necessary. Generally 4-6 ounces is more than enough.
2. Are you being thwarted by PR reversal?
PR reversal is when part of the energy in your body is flowing one way and part is flowing the opposite. When this happens it is absolutely impossible for results because your energy is working against itself. Although it is true that nothing can be accomplished while this reversal is in affect the good news is that there are four basic statements that solve the problem nine times out of ten.
“Even though I feel … I love and accept myself.
Even though I feel … I forgive myself for however I contributed to this.
Even though I feel … I forgive anyone else who contributed to this.
Even I feel … for the rest of my life, I love and accept myself.”
3. Are you being specific enough?
Once you get past the PR reversal it’s absolutely critical that you’re specific about your problem to get the best results. It’s easy to believe you’re being specific without actually being so. So, how can you tell if you are being specific enough? The answer is by using a simple NLP technique to make sure you’re tapping on the root of your problem. All you have to do is state your problem and then ask the question “why?” afterwards. Let me give you a brief example.
I start out by saying that I am angry.
- Why am I angry?
Because my boss yelled at me.
- Why?
Because he felt I was not making my sales quotas?
- Why does that make you mad?
Because he made me look stupid in front of my fellow workers.
- Why does it matter how you look in front of your co-workers?
It makes me feel inferior
Here is the issue to tap on. I am angry because I do not want my work colleagues to see me as inferior to them.
So the best statement would be along these lines:
Even though I am angry because my boss yelled at me in front of my fellow workers and that makes me feel inferior I completely and deeply love and respect myself.
There are other reasons why EFT appears not to work at times, but they are more rare.
Remember EFT will always work to at least a degree, so never give up!
